Ayurveda History

  DHANVANTARI, GOD OF AYURVEDA

SCIENCE OF LIFE

Ayurveda is a system of thought originating in Vedic India, whose legendary origins date back 5000 years. It is not merely an ancient Indian traditional form of medicine but rather a true Science of Life, which concerns the physical, psychological and spiritual aspects of human life. Ayurveda is a precise system of interpreting reality, the highest expression of a philosophy which sees the Universe and its parts as a unique, indissoluble reality. Man, Nature and Universe, subject to the very same laws, and made up of the same five elements, become as one, an organic whole of which mankind is merely one part. Ayurveda is a system of medicine which not only concerns itself with illness and its cure by restoring the internal balance of energy, it is also the Science of Health, a system which rests on all those elements which come together as one to make our life healthy, long, happy and of benefit to others.

Ayurveda is also the Science of the Doshas, the three energies that control all the physical and mental processes of our body. The dosha are responsible for the physical functions, the coordination of the sense organs, the bio-chemical reactions of the body. Vata: " that which moves things" is the Wind. It means movement, creativity, infinite horizons. It controls the nervous system and sensorial balance, determines orientation and direction. It is cold, dry, light. Pitta: " that which digests the things" is the Fire: it means warm, cook, transform. It is responsible for all the metabolic reactions of the body as well as the digestion of thoughts and images. It is hot, oily and light. Kapha: " that which keeps things together" is Water: It means adhesion, viscosity, stability. It is the base of our emotional structure, it controls the fluids of the body and it is responsible for the nourishment of tissues. It is cold, damp, heavy... see read more details about Ayur bodywork for "kapha slimming & detoxifying massage"
